Guidance Department
The Guidance program at Loyola Academy supports and nurtures students throughout their academic career. The functions of the Guidance Department are threefold:
Academic - Counselors receive and interpret ineligibility reports, progress reports, and quarter and semester grades. Also, they facilitate staffings for students after long term illness or as needed.
Personal – Counselors serve as resource for students with any presenting concern. Topics addressed include stress from academics, peer pressure, family and friend relationships, and course selection. Individual meetings with the counselor are encouraged by the counseling staff and can have a tremendous impact on a student’s well-being. Additionally, the Guidance department works with outside referrals to ensure proper support is given to students, both academically and emotionally.
Formation facilitator – Ideally each counselor works with same student caseload for four years and serves as mentor for that group of students. The student groups are approximately twenty five per period. As a formation facilitator, the counselor sees their caseload twice each week and leads discussions and presentations relevant for the students.
