Faith Formation Programs for Parents

As a Jesuit faith and learning center, Loyola Academy seeks to educate all of its community members in the tradition of St. Ignatius and the Catholic Church.  Our Faith Formation Program for Parents is an ongoing series of six-week theological and spiritual formation programs for parents at Loyola Academy.

Scott Myslinski, PhD began his studies in philosophy and theology as a Jesuit at Loyola Marymount University. He continued his studies at Loyola University Chicago, where he earned his MA and PhD in constructive theology. His academic interests include theological anthropology, political theology and philosophy, liberation theology and the relationship between theology and the social sciences. He is a full-time theology teacher at Loyola Academy.


 

Course Descriptions

Theology 101 for Parents 

Fall 2012

Description:  This course introduces the parent of a Loyola Academy student to the world and meaning of Catholic faith.  It is fundamentally a six week seminar designed for a Loyola Parent to have an experience of God formed by a community and informed by Catholic theological reflection.  

Spiritual Exercises for Parents

Spring 2013

Description: During the season of Lent, Loyola Academy offers a six-week journey through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius for parents.  This journey consists of a series of meditations, prayers and contemplative practices to help the parents deepen their relationship with God.   Each session will begin with a group discussion about the previous week’s prayer assignment, followed by small group discussions on reflection points on the theme for the week.  The evening will conclude with a guided meditation based on St. Ignatius’ imaginative prayer.  Each participant will be asked to keep a prayer journal and pray for 30 minutes each day throughout the six-week program. 

Scripture 101 for Parents

Spring 2013

Description:  This course introduces the parent of a Loyola Academy student to Biblical literature and the methods for critical understanding of the Bible.  It is a six week seminar designed for a Loyola parent to critically engage, contemplate, and pray with the Sacred Scriptures.  The course format will consist primarily in conversation and dialogue as well as instructor-led presentations.
