Loyola Academy Hosts Middle School Choir Festival

Loyola Academy hosted its annual Middle School Choir Festival on Thursday, November 16. Nearly 100 students from five Catholic grade schools (Mary Seat of Wisdom - Park Ridge; Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Glenview; St. Mary of the Woods - Chicago; Queen of All Saints - Chicago; The Academy at St. Joan of Arc - Evanston) joined current Loyola chorale students to make beautiful music, have fun, and learn more about the choir program at Loyola.
The day was a wonderful opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to experience singing in a large choir and music-making with students from different schools. After a morning packed with warmups and practice, students enjoyed a luncheon in the McGrath Family Performing Arts Center lobby and the chance to socialize with current Loyola students and new friends from neighboring grade schools.

After lunch, middle schoolers learned about choir at Loyola with an info session hosted by current students. The session introduced middle school students to the Choir Board and covered topics such as a capella, music in college, voice lessons, musicals and plays, and Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) contests.

A final performance took place in the Chapel after lunch and featured the following songs:
  • When I Rise Up
  • The Dream Keeper
  • Poor Wayfaring Stranger
  • Chorale: Flight
  • Chamber Singers: Ad Astra
  • Rise Up
A very special thank you to our guests from Mary Seat of Wisdom, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Mary of the Woods, Queen of All Saints, and The Academy of St. Joan of Arc! Thanks also go to Choir Teacher Mr. Jesse Borrower and Fine Arts Administrative Assistant Mrs. Deborah Ganz for putting this special day together.
