Bard College is located in Avondale-on-Hudson, New York, and is only 90 miles north of New York City. The campus is located in the Hudson River Historic District. Bard was the first college in the U.S. to offer a human rights major.

First-year students participate in the Language and Thinking Program, a three-week intensive introduction to the liberal arts and science. Students work in small groups and learn to think, listen, and articulate themselves more effectively.
All students are required to complete Senior Projects, which vary depending on their major. Some include arranging concerts while others require written papers.

The Bard Music Festival, a classical music concert, takes place each summer on campus.
Bard’s location makes it easy for students to participate in outdoor activities, such as skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and more.
There is a student-run theater on campus where dozens of student-directed and written productions are put on each year, including an annual 24-Hour Theater Festival.
