Visiting artist Mardy Sears was on campus Monday, November 4, to interact with four of Loyola Academy's visual art classes.
Sears talked about the importance of failure in the creative process and how to stay open to the unexpected events along the journey. Art teachers Colleen Aufderheide LdM '85 and Patricia Patterson accompanied their students to the gallery in the McGrath Family Performing Arts Center, where the artist answered students' questions and shared stories behind the making of her work.
Ms. Patterson, chair of Fine Arts and curator of the exhibition commented, "The variety of media and techniques used in the exhibition was a great way for students to see how an artist develops an idea through different avenues. It was a privilege for our students to be able to learn directly from the artist about her practice." After school, members of the National Art Honor Society and Art Club had a private tour with the artist.
Ms. Sears' work will be displayed in an exhibition entitled "I will miss you more than I know" in the Performing Arts Center Gallery until November 12. The exhibit will be open during school days. Please follow our parent/visitor policy when entering the building.
