The fall semester has been a busy time for the STEAM Scholars!
The senior STEAM Scholars have been working on their community service projects. In September, they visited the Redeeming Life Maternity House where they met with the director of the house to discuss the specifics of a cabinet-making project. The scholars then visited an escape room to promote team building. In late October, they hosted a bake sale to raise funds for the Redeeming Life Maternity House.
The junior STEAM Scholars have been trained on all the new equipment in the new Maker’s space and they have been building replacement birdhouses on the Munz campus. Each group of students was given a specific bird and had to research the best design for their target bird. On November 2, the junior STEAM Scholars also traveled to the Maker Faire Milwaukee at Discovery World, where they networked with others interested in STEM-fields and completed a program called Design 101. They then visited Marquette University for a guided tour around the Engineering and Health Science Buildings with current Marquette University students.
The sophomore STEAM Scholars have been working to create their own Bluetooth speaker. In October, they traveled to S&C Electric Company in Chicago to explore how electricity is supplied to the grid. One of the highlights was seeing a programmed robot build the components of a transformer. The STEAM Scholars were excited to hear from professionals in the electrical and manufacturing worlds!
The STEAM Scholars are excited for all the new opportunities the next semester has in store.
