Loyola's Music Ensembles Present "A Loyola Christmas: Lessons and Carols"

Loyola Academy's music ensembles came together to offer their annual Christmas Concert collaboration on Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7. Among the ensembles performing were Loyola's Symphonic and Concert Bands, Percussions Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Honors Orchestra, Concert Choir, Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, Chorale, and Chamber Singers. Each delighted audiences with popular Christmas tunes such as: "O Come, All Ye Faithful," "Mary Did You Know," "Silent Night," and more. Click here to read the concert program.
This year's concert embraces the tradition of Lessons and Carols, weaving together nine sacred texts and music to recount the story of Christ's birth. This timeless format, cherished in both sacred spaces and concert halls worldwide, offers a meaningful framework for music and worship. While the original Lessons and Carols drew exclusively from biblical texts, many communities today incorporate sacred poetry to deepen the story of Christmas. Teachers and students, including Loyola Academy President Rev. Gregory J. Ostidek, SJ, read passages and poems between the musical selections. It was a glorious event with a full house and plenty of Christmas joy all around.

Congratulations to all students and their teachers on this wonderful concert!
