Five Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

In early September, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation named five Loyola Academy students National Merit semifinalists. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Congratulations to John Ehlert, Martin Raphael Gonzalez, Gustav Koh, Seiichi Villacarlos, and Ethan Santiago.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. High school juniors entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be awarded in the spring.

The Loyola community congratulates the following five seniors from the Class of 2025! Click here to learn more about each student.
