The Loyola Academy Community Celebrates Ash Wednesday Mass

On Wednesday, March 5, Loyola celebrated Ash Wednesday with an all school Mass in the West Gym. During his homily, Campus Minister Rev. Arek Ciemiega, SJ, encouraged Ramblers to take time during the Lenten season to slow down and reflect on ways to open their hearts, live authentically, and embrace community through service.
"You don't need to do something big, you don't need to be perfect. Just start small," he said. "Notice the people around you. Pay attention if someone is struggling or if they’re sad. Be kind, be patient. Take care of each other, that is how real faith grows."

At the conclusion of Mass, members of the Loyola Academy Service Team (LAST) emphasized the importance of almsgiving during the Lenten season. They introduced the Gonzaga Lunch Program, one of their latest service projects. Each week, LAST packs two hundred lunches to be distributed to those in need through community partners like A Just Harvest. Since the project began, LAST has packed more than two thousand lunches. They invited the entire school community to join their efforts this Lent by adding a dollar donation when checking out at the cafeteria register, helping them purchase the supplies needed to continue packing and distributing lunches.
