Results from the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest
Congratulations to Allison Gregorio '26 (voice) and Sean Vanegas '24 (piano), winners of the Best of the Day Award at the 2024 IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest! At this contest, students prepare solos, small ensembles, and large ensembles to perform before a judge. The judge rates the student(s) based on tone quality, rhythm, pitch, expression, diction, and skill.
Students are then placed into categories (1st place-6th place) based on their objective score. All participants receive a feedback form detailing their strengths and any areas for improvement. The class AA division of the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest features all the participating high schools in the state that have a student enrollment over 2,000 such as Loyola Academy. At the end of this contest, all high schools in their division are ranked based on the combined scores for all the solos, small ensembles, and large string ensembles.
